Christina Sonsire and Isabel Garcia.

Do you have enough car insurance to protect yourself and your family in case you have a crash?

Christina Sonsire, a partner with the Ziff Law Firm, talked about one of the most important – and often overlooked – components in car insurance, Supplemental Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist (SUM) coverage, in the debut of the law firm’s new weekly TV news segment, Counsel’s Corner, which is broadcast during WENY-TV’s noon news program on Mondays.

In another segment, Christina, a respected medical malpractice lawyer, talked about what it takes to handle challenging and complicated medical malpractice cases.

Medical malpractice cases require consulting with expert medical doctors in many different fields, and the work can get very challenging, Christina said.

“What makes medical malpractice cases often tricky is that the defense side is doing the same thing as the plaintiff’s side and very often what we find is our medical experts look at the same set of facts and come down with a different standard of care.”

The weekly news segments are about legal issues that impact the lives of Twin Tiers residents. You can see the segments here.

“When I meet with clients, regardless of whether it is a car crash case, I always ask about the kind of insurance coverage they have because most people are not aware of the importance of SUM coverage,” Christina said. “This is coverage you place on your own vehicle to protect you and your family members if someone hits your vehicle.

Christina said most of us, when we purchase insurance, get plenty of coverage on our vehicle in case we are involved in a crash that hurts someone else, but we don’t protect ourselves in case the other driver has no insurance or very poor insurance.

“We are proud to partner with WENY and excited to share information about the laws that effect people in our community,” said Christina, who will appear in most of the segments for Ziff Law. “We want to help viewers better understand the law and how it applies to them.”

The other Ziff Law attorneys — managing partner Jim Reed, partner ZiffLaw Attorney, and attorney Mike Brown — will also appear in some of the segments.

WENY’s Isabel Garcia is the host.
