Twin Tiers motorcyclists can raise money to help people in their communities in the next two weekends during two fundraising rides. It’s a great opportunity to help others and enjoy two of the last Saturdays of summer.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Spirit of Schuyler nonprofit group with hold its charity ride. The group provides emergency financial assistance to county residents and their families. Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m. at Matt’s Place at 1237 County Road 16 in Beaver Dams and then the motorcycles will enjoy a rare lap around the track at Watkins Glen International before embarking on a two-hour scenic ride with planned stops along the way.
Tickets are $25 for riders and $20 for passengers and can be purchased here. The ride ends at Matt’s with a barbecue and music.
On Saturday, Aug. 31, the 11th annual Ride for the Red Motorcycle Run will raise money for the Service to the Armed Forces program with the Finger Lakes American Red Cross. The ride begins and ends at the Big Flats American Legion at 45 Olcott Road South in Big Flats. Registration is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and the ride begins at 10:30.
Those who pre-register online by Tuesday, Aug. 20, will receive a shirt for riders and passengers.
The ride is supported by the Arkport-Corning Harley Owners Group (HOG) chapter and Arkport Cycles, and will honor military veterans and Gold Star families.
The ride will stop at Arkport Cycles for lunch.
The registration fees are $25 for riders and $25 for passengers.
The Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1 to 5 at the American Legion after the ride concludes.
