New York and Pennsylvania Injury and Malpractice Lawyer

For more than 20 years, Jim has practiced in the state and federal courts of both New York and Pennsylvania in the areas of Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, and Legal Malpractice.

Jim limits his practice to the representation of injured persons only and does NOT do any insurance defense work.

Million Dollar Advocates Forum Member Jim was selected for membership in the prestigious Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Forum membership is limited to trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skill, experience and excellence in advocacy by achieving a trial verdict, award or settlement of Two Million Dollars or more. Jim was selected for membership following his successful handling of a medical malpractice case for a little girl who suffered permanent brain damage due to a delay in delivery. The case settled for the full insurance limits of $2,000,000.00. In addition to this case, Jim has handled several other Million-Plus cases including a recent settlement for $2,400,000. See more of Jim’s results here.

Super Lawyers Jim has also been selected as a New York “Super Lawyer” in the area of personal injury plaintiff attorneys. Lawyers are selected after a rigorous research process based on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Jim and his fellow ZiffLaw partner Carl Hayden are the only plaintiff’s attorneys in the Twin Tiers ever designated as NY SuperLawyers.

Faculty @ SPU Jim is very proud of the fact that he was selected as a member of the Faculty of Solo Practice University (SPU). SPU is a ground-breaking, international virtual university dedicated to teaching lawyers everything that law schools do not– how to handle a REAL case from beginning to end.

Given his broad experience as an injury attorney for more than 20 years, Jim was selected to teach: Injury Law 101– The Nuts and Bolts of Handling an Injury Case. Why is this a big deal? Because the SPU Faculty Members have been selected from among the very best lawyers in the country and a faculty member must be formally invited to join the SPU faculty. Congratulations to Jim on this great appointment.

Jim has lectured frequently on several law-related topics and has been published in the New York State Bar Journal, which is the largest and most prestigious legal publication in New York State. In 2008, Jim was selected to author a chapter in the New York State Bar Association treatise: Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Actions in New York.

Jim understands that our laws are very complicated and that it is virtually impossible for folks to understand the laws that are important to them. That’s why he strongly believes in freely sharing legal information on topics that directly impact people’s lives.

To that end, Jim has published TWO FREE BOOKS that he gives away free to residents of New York and Pennsylvania. Get your Free Copy by clicking here:

Jim, along with fellow ZiffLaw injury attorneys, Adam Gee, Christina Sonsire and Eric Johnson, publishes the NYInjuryLawBlog that is a great source of information about many aspects of N.Y. law and answers the questions that many folks have such as: What is no-fault insurance and what does that mean? What kind of insurance should I have on my motorcycle? What should I do if I get hurt in a car crash? You can visit the blog by clicking here.

WETM-TV selected Jim as their local legal expert. Jim is featured on the Noon News on Wednesdays where he responds to listeners’ legal questions. If you have a legal question, feel free to E-mail it to Jim on our Quick Contact form to the left and he will be happy to address your question either via E-mail or on WETM.

In 1986, Jim became associated with the Ziff Law Firm and he made partner in 1989. Jim was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1986 and to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1987. He attended Elmira Free Academy, Hamilton College and the Dickinson School of Law. In law school, Jim was selected for both the Trial Moot Court Board and Appellate Moot Court Board.

Jim is a member of the Chemung County, New York State and American Bar Associations as well as the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Trial Lawyers Association.

Jim is very active in community activities and has served as the President of the Soaring Capital Soccer Club and on the Board of Directors for the Arnot Art Museum, the Rockwell Art Museum and the Chemung County SPCA. In 1998, Jim organized the first Chemung County Mock Trial Tournament for the high school students of this county.

Jim is a lifelong resident of Elmira where he lives with his wife and three children. When he’s not working, Jim can often be found on his bicycle as he is an avid bicycle racer having competed in races all over the country including a 508 mile team race through Death Valley (The Furnace Creek 508) and a 540 mile race through the Cascade Mountains of Oregon (The Race Across Oregon).
