Carl Hayden practices full-time in the area of Personal Injury Litigation including Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Medical Malpractice, Legal Malpractice, and Construction Injuries.

Carl has been with the Ziff Law Firm since 1971. During 35+ years of active trial practice, he has handled virtually every kind of litigation, from auto accidents to the most complex medical and legal malpractice, asbestos, construction and wrongful death claims.

In 2002, Carl was selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (FACTL), an honor accorded only the top 1% of lawyers. He is the only plaintiff’s lawyer in Chemung County to have been so recognized. Click here to learn more about FACTL.

Carl was designated as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of personal injury plaintiff attorneys. He was honored in both the New York Super Lawyers 2007 Upstate Edition and 2008 Upstate Edition. Lawyers are selected after a rigorous research process based on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Carl has been a frequent lecturer at legal seminars speaking on personal injury law, medical malpractice and advanced trial techniques.

Carl belongs to the American Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the New York State Bar Association.

Carl was elected Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents on three separate occasions, serving in that capacity from 1995-2002. The Board of Regents sets educational policy for New York State.

Carl graduated from Hamilton College in 1963, served four years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, and graduated from Cornell University Law School in 1970, where he was President of the Law Student Association.

He has been very active in community activities including: President of the Elmira City School District Board of Education; Vice-President of Southern Tier Economic Growth, Inc., President of the Chemung County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Neighborhood Legal Services, the Mark Twain Musical Drama and the Chemung County Ethics Committee.
