Carl Hayden prac­tices full-time in the area of Per­sonal Injury Lit­i­ga­tion including Per­sonal Injury, Wrongful Death, Med­ical Mal­prac­tice, Legal Mal­prac­tice, and Con­struc­tion Injuries.

Carl has been with the Ziff Law Firm since 1971. During 35+ years of active trial prac­tice, he has han­dled vir­tu­ally every kind of lit­i­ga­tion, from auto acci­dents to the most com­plex med­ical and legal mal­prac­tice, asbestos, con­struc­tion and wrongful death claims.

In 2002, Carl was selected as a Fellow of the Amer­ican Col­lege of Trial Lawyers (FACTL), an honor accorded only the top 1% of lawyers. He is the only plaintiff’s lawyer in Chemung County to have been so rec­og­nized. Click here to learn more about FACTL.

Carl was des­ig­nated as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of per­sonal injury plain­tiff attor­neys. He was hon­ored in both the New York Super Lawyers 2007 Upstate Edi­tion and 2008 Upstate Edi­tion. Lawyers are selected after a rig­orous research process based on 12 indi­ca­tors of peer recog­ni­tion and pro­fes­sional achieve­ment.

Carl has been a fre­quent lec­turer at legal sem­i­nars speaking on per­sonal injury law, med­ical mal­prac­tice and advanced trial techniques.

Carl belongs to the Amer­ican Trial Lawyers Asso­ci­a­tion, the New York State Trial Lawyers Asso­ci­a­tion, the New York Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the New York State Bar Association.

Carl was elected Chan­cellor of the New York State Board of Regents on three sep­a­rate occa­sions, serving in that capacity from 1995–2002. The Board of Regents sets edu­ca­tional policy for New York State.

Carl grad­u­ated from Hamilton Col­lege in 1963, served four years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, and grad­u­ated from Cor­nell Uni­ver­sity Law School in 1970, where he was Pres­i­dent of the Law Stu­dent Association.

He has been very active in com­mu­nity activ­i­ties including: Pres­i­dent of the Elmira City School Dis­trict Board of Edu­ca­tion; Vice-President of Southern Tier Eco­nomic Growth, Inc., Pres­i­dent of the Chemung County Chapter of the Amer­ican Red Cross, Neigh­bor­hood Legal Ser­vices, the Mark Twain Musical Drama and the Chemung County Ethics Committee.
